Nature of Work
This is routine and repetitive work
in the pick-up and processing of mail, packages, records, or materials within
the Supreme Court's facilities and other public and private entities. Work involves routine vehicle operation and
minor clerical work.
A messenger typically works to
deliver records, mail, supplies, or books to various individuals, within and
without the organization. Delivery
requests are usually in the form of verbal instructions as to the
organizational unit or person to whom delivery is to be made. Supervision is received from an
administrative supervisor who reviews work.
Essential Functions (Any
one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples
cover all the duties which may be performed)
· Operate and maintains postal meter
· Makes rounds of mail stations in assigned areas; picks up
mail packages and records for delivery; stamps and seals mail; and deposits
these to designated areas and the post office as required.
· Maintains control logs for registered and express packages
for tracking and reconciliation purposes.
· Operates passenger vehicle in making deliveries to and
receiving from other court offices and or entities.
· Checks vehicle each day for gasoline, oil, battery, tires,
and general running condition.
· Responsible for transporting court personnel at times.
· Other duties as assigned or required.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
Have general knowledge of the
locality in which work is performed.
Ability to learn departmental
messenger routes and schedules.
Ability to understand and follow
oral and written instructions.
Ability to make simple arithmetic calculations
and to write legibly.
Ability to learn how to operate a
postage meter.
Ability to operate an automobile
safely and efficiently in traffic.
Ability to learn assigned clerical
tasks readily and to adhere to a prescribed
routine.
Ability to establish and maintain
effective working relationships.
Working Conditions
Moderate noise; business office
setting; may be subjected to outdoor weather conditions; must be able to
operate a motor vehicle.
Physical Demands
Work
involves a significant amount of standing, walking, sitting, and reaching with
hands and arms; must be able to transfer up to 75 pounds; must be able to climb
stairs repeatedly with heavy loads.
Qualifications (Any
combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the
knowledge, abilities and skills listed above.
An example of an acceptable qualification for this position is:)
A high school diploma and some
experience (one year) in the operation of a passenger car, van or light pick-up
truck.
Licensure and Certification
Possession
of a current driver's license valid in the U.S. Virgin Islands is
required. Applicants will be subjected
to a background check for a clean driving record.
Salary
Range: $23,399--$33,170
