Continuing professional education
of lawyers serves to improve the administration of justice and benefit the
public interest. Regular participation
in Continuing Legal Education programs will enhance the professional skills of
practicing lawyers, afford them periodic opportunities for professional
self-evaluation, and improve the quality of legal services rendered to the
public. Rule 208 of the Supreme Court
Rules governs the requirements of the mandatory Continuing Legal Education.
Accordingly, all active members of the Virgin Islands Bar
Association are required to participate in the requisite number of hours of
continuing legal education as set forth in Rule 208. Failure to do so shall
result in the attorney's suspension from membership in the Virgin Islands Bar.
CLE Requirements
In accordance with Rule 208(b), every active member of the Virgin Islands Bar
Association, shall complete and certify attendance of a minimum of twelve (12) hours per year of approved Continuing
Legal Education (CLE) courses of which at least two (2) hours shall be in the
area of legal ethics or professionalism. Each member is required to complete
the required CLE courses during the period of January 1 through December 31 of

Certifying Authority
Pursuant to Rule 208(a), the Virgin Islands Bar Association is charged with the
responsibility of creating a Continuing Legal Education and Admissions
Committee. The Bar Association is also
charged with implementing and administering the provisions of the Rule. All members of the Virgin Islands Bar
Association are encouraged to review the Rule 208 in its entirety to
familiarize themselves with the requirements as they pertain to Continuing
Legal Education programs.
